About
A calcium silicate mineral used as an opacifying agent and absorbent in cosmetics, providing a naturally white color and texture.
Wollastonite (CaSiO3, CAS 13983-17-0) is a naturally occurring calcium silicate mineral. It is not restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. Cosmetic-grade wollastonite is selected for low asbestos content (certain natural wollastonite deposits may contain asbestos minerals). It is used in cosmetics as a white opacifying agent and absorbent. The EU REACH regulation requires registration but no restriction for wollastonite in cosmetic applications. Generally considered safe when properly purified and graded for cosmetic use.
