Zanthoxylum americanum and Z. clava-hercules are Rutaceae family trees also known as southern prickly ash or toothache tree. The bark contains alpha-terpineol, gingerol-related compounds, and isoquinoline alkaloids. Not on EU Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted). However, Rutaceae family plants can contain skin-sensitising alkaloids. Used in traditional medicine for its analgesic properties.
