About

A morpholine-based photoinitiator used in UV-curable nail gels and coatings, it can cause photoallergic contact dermatitis and is restricted to non-skin-contact industrial cosmetic applications in some EU member states.

This morpholino-propanone functions as a photoinitiator (Type I) in UV/LED-curable resin systems such as nail gels and hybrid coatings. Photoinitiators are known to cause photoallergic contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals, and specific derivatives (including aryl morpholinyl ketones) have faced regulatory scrutiny in the EU under the Cosmetics Regulation. While not currently listed in a specific EU Annex restriction, the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) has flagged photoinitiators in general as requiring better sensitisation data. Concentration in finished nail products is typically very low due to polymerisation conversion.
