5-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
5-Chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol, also known as triclocarban or a close analog, is a chlorinated aromatic ether-phenol compound. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annex V/26, it is permitted as a preservative at a maximum concentration of 0.3% in ready-to-use formulations. The compound carries significant hazard classifications including H315 (skin irritation), H319 (serious eye irritation), H331 (toxic by inhalation), H335 (may cause respiratory irritation), and H400/H410 (aquatic toxicity). The SCCS has raised concerns about endocrine-disrupting potential and environmental persistence, similar to triclosan. In the EU, it is restricted to rinse-off products only and requires specific warning statements on packaging.
