About
A benzyl ester derivative of ursolic acid, a plant triterpenoid known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity on skin.
Benzyl Ursolate is the benzyl ester of ursolic acid, a pentacyclic triterpenoid found in apple peel, rosemary, and holy basil. Ursolic acid is well-studied for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties in skin. Esterification with benzyl alcohol is a common cosmetic modification to improve oil solubility and stability. The EU Cosmetic Regulation does not list ursolic acid or its simple esters in any restricted annex; it is considered a low-risk cosmetic ingredient. The benzyl moiety adds mild fragrance character but does not itself trigger EU fragrance allergen labeling at trace levels.
Skin benefits
- Anti-inflammatory properties soothe reactive skin
- Antioxidant activity protects against environmental damage
- May support collagen and elastin maintenance
Known concerns
- May contribute to fragrance character in formulations
