About
Toxic metal and its compounds — confirmed human carcinogen and cause of severe lung disease. Never a cosmetic ingredient. EU Annex II prohibited.
Beryllium (CAS 7440-41-7) and its compounds are highly toxic. Beryllium is classified by IARC as Group 1 (carcinogenic to humans — causally linked to lung cancer) and under EU CLP as Carc. 1B, Muta. 1B. Chronic low-level inhalation exposure causes chronic beryllium disease (berylliosis), a granulomatous lung disease. It is a potent occupational sensitizer. Beryllium and its compounds are prohibited in cosmetic products under EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 Annex II (item 40 group). No legitimate cosmetic application exists; the INCI/CosIng-adjacent listing exists to formalize the prohibition. Evidence base is categorical.
