About
Extracellular vesicles isolated from broccoli sprouts — the young seedlings concentrate defensive phytochemicals at much higher levels than mature broccoli, delivering a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory payload to skin.
Brassica oleracea italica sprout vesicles are extracellular vesicles derived specifically from broccoli sprouts rather than mature broccoli plants. Broccoli sprouts are known to contain dramatically higher concentrations of glucoraphanin (the sulforaphane precursor) and other glucosinolates compared to the mature vegetable — some studies report 10-100 times higher concentrations in the cotyledon stage. The sprouts' defensive chemical profile is more concentrated, making their vesicles a more potent delivery vehicle for Nrf2-activating isothiocyanates and other protective phytochemicals. The vesicles isolated from sprouts maintain the same fundamental structure (lipid bilayer nanoparticle) as mature broccoli vesicles but carry a more bioactive cargo. The membrane composition includes phospholipids, glycolipids, and sterols that may themselves have beneficial interactions with the skin barrier.
