About

An inorganic pigment used in cosmetic formulations, restricted in EU due to chromium allergy concerns and hexavalent chromium contamination risk.

Chromium (III) hydroxide is used as a green-to-blue inorganic pigment in decorative cosmetics and tattoo inks. While trivalent chromium is less toxic than hexavalent chromium, EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III restricts its use due to the risk of hexavalent chromium formation and the potential for chromium sensitization. Cosmetic grade must be free from hexavalent chromium contamination. The substance is prohibited above 0.1% in mixtures.
