Chromium (III) oxide (Cr2O3) is a trivalent chromium compound widely used as a green pigment in cosmetic formulations. Under EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex III, chromium (III) compounds are restricted to below 0.1% as a constituent of substances or mixtures. While Cr(III) is far less toxic than Cr(VI), it can cause sensitisation (H317) and presents concerns for individuals with chromium allergy.
