About
Also called 'leaf acetate,' this is one of the most iconic and widely used green-note fragrance ingredients in perfumery, responsible for the fresh-cut grass character in many popular fragrances.
Cis-3-hexenyl acetate is the acetate ester of cis-3-hexen-1-ol, commonly referred to as 'leaf acetate' in the fragrance industry due to its ability to replicate the scent of freshly cut grass. It occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables and has been used in both flavor and fragrance applications for decades. The compound is not restricted under EU Regulation 1223/2009 and has an excellent safety record in cosmetic formulations. IFRA has approved its use without significant restrictions beyond standard good manufacturing practice.
Skin benefits
- Fragrance material — no direct skin conditioning benefit at normal concentrations
- Natural occurrence in plant lipids suggests high biocompatibility
