About
Job's tears (hato mugi / yi yi ren) seed — a traditional Asian grain with skin-brightening and smoothing use.
Coix lacryma-jobi ma-yuen seed is the cultivated variety of Job's tears (hato mugi in Japanese, yi yi ren in Chinese). It is used both as a food and as a cosmetic ingredient in East Asia, traditionally associated with smoother, brighter skin. Phytochemistry includes coixol (a benzoxazinone), coixenolide, starch, and small amounts of lipids. EU CosIng lists it for skin-conditioning function; no Annex II/III restrictions. No CIR adverse findings. Generally well tolerated; the cereal-grain format has a long food-safety record. Cosmetic-specific clinical data is modest but growing.
