About
Blackcurrant leaf — a flavonoid-rich botanical with mild astringent and antioxidant properties.
Ribes nigrum leaf (CAS 68606-81-5) is the leaf of the blackcurrant bush, long used in European herbal medicine. It contains flavonoids (rutin, quercetin glycosides, kaempferol), proanthocyanidins, tannins, and trace essential-oil components. EU CosIng lists the leaf for skin-conditioning and astringent functions. No Annex II/III restrictions. CIR has reviewed Ribes-genus materials and found them safe as used. Generally well tolerated; tannin astringency is the main consideration. No cosmetic-specific hazard concerns.
