About
Exaltone — a macrocyclic musk fragrance ingredient with a warm, powdery musk character. Biodegradable and RIFM-assessed.
Cyclopentadecanone (CAS 502-72-7), trade name Exaltone, is a 15-membered macrocyclic ketone with a musk odour profile. It is a well-established perfumery ingredient and one of the preferred biodegradable alternatives to nitro and polycyclic musks (which have environmental concerns). RIFM and IFRA have reviewed it and set usage-level guidance for finished products. EU CosIng lists it for fragrance and masking functions. No SCCS restriction as an individual compound. Not a strong sensitizer but, like most fragrance molecules, excessive use can provoke reactions in sensitive users.
