About
Camel grass leaf — a lemongrass relative with citral/geraniol aromatic compounds. Fragrant and useful but a known fragrance allergen source.
Cymbopogon schoenanthus leaf, used as extract or essential oil, is rich in citral (a mix of geranial and neral), geraniol, and related terpenes. It appears in aromatic skin, body and hair products as a skin-conditioning and fragrance ingredient. Listed in EU CosIng; no dedicated SCCS opinion. Citral and geraniol are on the EU Annex III list of 26 fragrance allergens that must be declared when present above 10 ppm in leave-on or 100 ppm in rinse-off products, and both have documented sensitisation potential. At low inclusion in well-formulated products it is generally well tolerated, but leave-on use on damaged skin should be cautious.
