About
Dequalinium Acetate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Dequalinium Acetate is a quaternary ammonium compound (quat) with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity used as a preservative in cosmetic formulations. While effective against bacteria and fungi, quaternary ammonium compounds can cause skin and eye irritation, particularly with prolonged or repeated exposure. Some quats have been associated with contact dermatitis, and their environmental toxicity (particularly to aquatic organisms) is a recognised concern. The acetate counterion moderates the compound's irritability somewhat. EU restrictions on quaternary ammonium compounds in leave-on and eye area products apply.
