About
Dimyristyl thiodipropionate — a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects oils in formulas from going rancid. Low-risk, low-drama.
Dimyristyl thiodipropionate (CAS 16545-54-3) is the dimyristyl diester of thiodipropionic acid, used as a secondary antioxidant (synergist) in oil-containing cosmetic formulations. It scavenges peroxyl radicals and decomposes hydroperoxides, protecting polyunsaturated oils. The CIR expert panel reviewed the dialkyl thiodipropionate family (including dilauryl, distearyl, and related esters) and concluded they are safe as used in cosmetics. Typical inclusion 0.005-0.1%. No significant irritation or sensitisation signal. Evidence level high.
