About

An amide-based sulfosuccinate surfactant with known sensitization and irritation concerns; the amide bond and lower ethoxylation degree elevate its risk profile.

DISODIUM PALMITOLEAMIDO PEG-2 SULFOSUCCINATE is the disodium salt of an amide-linked PEG-2 sulfosuccinate derived from palmitoleic acid. It functions as an anionic surfactant. It is not listed in EU Annex II or Annex III restriction lists. However, amide-based surfactants in this class have a higher incidence of skin sensitization and irritation compared to simple sulfosuccinates, and the very low ethoxylation degree (2 mol EO) reduces its molecular weight, increasing potential for skin penetration. Eye irritation is a known concern. This ingredient is predominantly used in rinse-off formulations.

Skin benefits

  • Effective anionic surfactant for cleansing formulations
  • Provides good foaming and detergency

Known concerns

  • Skin sensitization potential, particularly in sensitive individuals
  • Known eye irritant; primarily used in rinse-off formulations
  • Low ethoxylation degree (2 mol EO) increases skin penetration potential
  • Potential trace 1,4-dioxane residue from ethoxylation process
