About
A daisy-family plant extract rich in caffeic acid, flavonoids and pyromeconic acid. Published research shows anti-itch and anti-inflammatory effects on skin.
Erigeron annuus leaf extract comes from the annual fleabane plant (Asteraceae family). Phytochemistry studies identify caffeic acid, flavonoids and coumarins as key constituents, with pyromeconic acid highlighted as a cosmetic-active marker. A 2024 Scientific Reports paper (Nature, doi 10.1038/s41598-024-55365-2) demonstrated that pyromeconic acid-enriched E. annuus water extract reduced histamine release and suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines, supporting claims for itch relief and barrier protection. It is listed on COSMILE Europe as a skin-conditioning INCI. No formal human toxicology programme has been published, which caps the evidence level at moderate. Asteraceae-family plants can cause contact sensitization in predisposed individuals, so patch testing is advisable in sensitive populations.
