Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate (INCI) is listed on EU CosIng with skin-conditioning and antimicrobial functions. It is approved as a preservative in cosmetics in the EU under the name Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate HCl (LAE®) at concentrations up to 0.4% for rinse-off products and 0.1% for leave-on products. It is not listed on EU Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted) beyond general preservative regulations. Its mechanism involves disruption of microbial cell membranes and it has a favourable safety profile for human use.
