About

Steam distillate from lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora) leaves and twigs, characterized by high citronellal content providing a strong lemon scent. EU regulated due to citronellal/geranial allergen concerns and potential sensitization from lemon eucalyptus oil components.

Eucalyptus Citriodora Leaf/Twig Water is the steam distillate from Eucalyptus citriodora (now Corymbia citriodora), also known as lemon eucalyptus. The key constituent is citronellal (70-90%), with smaller amounts of citronellol and isopulegol. CAS 85203-56-1 is listed in CosIng. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009, citronellal is a recognized fragrance allergen requiring labeling when present above 0.001% in leave-on products. Lemon eucalyptus oil has been subject to SCCS review due to concerns about citral (geranial + neral) content which is a known sensitizer. This leaf water is lower risk than the pure essential oil but still requires caution.

Skin benefits

  • Contains geranial/neral (citral) which is a known contact sensitizer
  • EU Annex III restrictions may apply to high-citral eucalyptus preparations
  • Not suitable for sensitive skin or individuals prone to fragrance allergies
