About
Soybean seedcake extract — CIR-reviewed safe, with isoflavones for antioxidant benefit. Main caveat is a small soy-allergy risk.
Glycine max (soybean) seedcake extract is obtained from the defatted residue of soybean oil production. It contributes proteins, isoflavones (genistein, daidzein), and phytosterols, giving antioxidant and skin-conditioning effects. The CIR Expert Panel (2020/2024 re-review) explicitly included seedcake extract among 24 soy-derived ingredients assessed safe at current cosmetic practices of use. Human patch testing of 5% formulations in occlusive conditions was non-irritating; ocular fibroblast IC50 exceeded 50%. Soy protein can trigger reactions in soy-allergic individuals; isoflavones have mild phytoestrogenic activity at high oral doses but negligible topical effect.
