A woody-herbaceous fragrance ester based on a hydrogenated indane. Stable, widely used in perfume bases.
Hexahydro-methanoinden-5-yl isobutyrate (CAS 67634-20-2) is a synthetic fragrance ester based on the hexahydromethanoindane scaffold. It provides a woody, herbaceous, slightly camphoraceous character and is used as a fragrance ingredient in a wide range of cosmetic and household product perfume bases. As a hydrogenated ester it is chemically stable and not a Michael acceptor like many fragrance aldehydes. IFRA standards apply. It is not on the EU Annex III list of declarable fragrance allergens. Aquatic toxicity is a generic concern for hydrophobic fragrance chemicals. At typical perfume-composition usage levels tolerability is good.
