About

An amine oxide surfactant derived from hydrogenated tallow (beef fat) alkyl chains, used as a mild cleansing and conditioning ingredient in cosmetics.

Hydrogenated Tallowamine Oxide (CAS 61788-94-1) is the N-oxide of a secondary amine derived from hydrogenated tallow alkyl chains (typically C16-C18). Amine oxides are widely used in cosmetic formulations as surfactants, foam boosters, and viscosity modifiers. They are generally regarded as mild and safe for skin contact at typical use concentrations (1-10%). The hydrogenated alkyl chain is saturated, reducing susceptibility to oxidation compared to unsaturated variants. It is not subject to specific EU cosmetic restrictions but, like all surfactants, may cause transient irritation in敏感肌肤 at high concentrations.

Skin benefits

  • Mild cleansing and foaming properties
  • Conditions skin and hair as a conditioning surfactant
  • Viscosity modifier in formulations

Known concerns

  • Transient skin irritation possible at high concentrations in sensitive skin
  • Environmental concern for aquatic toxicity typical of surfactants
