About

A tallow-derived amine oxide surfactant used for foam boosting and conditioning, with standard concerns for animal-derived ingredients.

Tallowamine Oxide is the N-oxide of tallow-alkyldimethylamine, derived from hydrogenated tallow (beef fat). The amine oxide functionality provides non-ionic surfactant behavior with mild cationic character at low pH. Tallow-derived ingredients raise ethical/religious concerns for some consumers and vegan formulations. The ingredient is biodegradable and not specifically restricted under EU Annex II or III cosmetics regulation. The high C16-C18 carbon chain length makes it more hydrophobic than coconut-derived variants.
