Star anise fruit water — a licorice-scented hydrosol with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties from its essential oil components.

Illicium verum (star anise) fruit water is obtained by steam distillation of star anise fruit. Its essential oil is dominated by trans-anethole (80-90%), with smaller amounts of foeniculin, limonene, and pinene. Used as a fragrance component and skin-conditioning agent. In the EU, star anise oil is regulated under the Fragrance Directive allergens list.
