About

A plant-derived protein complex that has been hydrolyzed and fortified with iodine, used in cosmetics for its film-forming and conditioning properties.

Extensins are hydroxyproline-rich glycoproteins found in plant cell walls. When hydrolyzed they become water-soluble peptides. The iodization adds elemental iodine, which in EU cosmetics is regulated under Annex III as a colouring agent and must not exceed specified concentration limits for rinse-off products.

Skin benefits

  • Film-forming properties that condition skin
  • May support skin barrier function through protein content

Known concerns

  • Iodine content may cause sensitivity in thyroid-impaired individuals
  • Possible contamination from plant source (pesticides, allergens)
