About
Magnesium Myreth Sulfate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
An anionic surfactant belonging to the laureth/myreth sulfate family, where the ethoxylated alkyl chain is neutralized with magnesium. Magnesium salts are generally milder than sodium counterparts. Similar ether sulfates have been reviewed by the CIR expert panel and deemed safe in rinse-off formulations at concentrations up to 10%. EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 does not list this specific ingredient in any annex, but it must comply with the general safety and purity requirements applicable to all surfactants.
Skin benefits
- Effective oil and dirt cleanser with good foaming properties
- Magnesium form is typically gentler on skin than sodium sulfate equivalents
Known concerns
- May cause eye irritation if introduced directly into the eye
- Potential for mild skin dryness with frequent use on sensitive skin
