About
Spearmint leaf powder — a carvone-rich botanical with mild cooling and fragrance. May sting sensitive skin or near eyes.
Mentha viridis (spearmint) leaf powder (CAS 84696-51-5) is milled dried spearmint leaf. Unlike peppermint, the dominant volatile is R-(-)-carvone rather than menthol, with small amounts of limonene and other terpenes. It is valued in cosmetics for a light minty aroma and mild cooling. EU CosIng lists it for skin-conditioning, fragrance, and masking functions. IFRA and SCCS regulate carvone and limonene as fragrance allergens requiring declaration on labels over threshold. No Annex II restriction. Well tolerated in rinse-off; leave-on products near eyes should be avoided.
