About
Spearmint leaf juice — cool, refreshing and aromatic. Gentle enough for most skin but fragrance components can sensitize, so approach with care on reactive skin.
Mentha viridis (spearmint) leaf juice is used as a skin-conditioning, refreshing, and fragrance botanical. Its aromatic character comes from carvone (the dominant terpene in spearmint, distinct from menthol-dominant peppermint), with limonene, pinene, and cineole in smaller amounts. CosIng lists it for skin conditioning and fragrance. No specific CIR monograph covering the juice, though peppermint/spearmint essential oils have been reviewed. Limonene is an EU Annex III-declared fragrance allergen. Tolerability is usually good in rinse-off and low-% leave-on; higher concentrations can cause a tingle, flare reactive skin, or sensitize predisposed users. Avoid near eyes and broken skin.
