About
Finely ground Indian sandalwood — a traditional cosmetic powder with mild exfoliation and fragrance. Real allergen risk and CITES-listed sourcing concern.
Santalum album wood powder (CAS 84787-70-2) is finely milled Indian sandalwood. In cosmetics it is used as a mild abrasive/masking powder and traditional skin-conditioner. The active aroma chemistry (alpha- and beta-santalol, santalenes) contributes antioxidant and antimicrobial activity but also a well-documented sensitisation potential — sandalwood components are listed IFRA-restricted fragrance allergens. Indian sandalwood is CITES Appendix II protected and EU CITES-controlled; ethical sourcing and sometimes substitution to S. austrocaledonicum are ongoing concerns. The powder form has lower volatile exposure than the oil but is not free of allergen risk.
