About

A methylated cinnamyl alcohol — in the EU Annex III declarable fragrance allergen class. Use with use-level awareness; disclosed on EU labels.

Methylcinnamyl alcohol (CAS 1504-55-8) is a methylated variant of cinnamyl alcohol, used for balsamic, floral, sweet fragrance notes. Cinnamyl alcohol is one of the 26 EU-designated fragrance allergens that must be declared on cosmetic labels above threshold concentrations (0.001% leave-on; 0.01% rinse-off). Methyl substitution does not eliminate the class sensitization concern, and the structure can oxidize to more reactive cinnamaldehyde-type species. RIFM/IFRA restrict cinnamyl-family materials to low leave-on percentages. The score is lowered from a prior green because the cinnamyl allergen-class signal is well established.
