Methyltestosterone is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Methyltestosterone (17α-methyl-4-androsten-17β-ol-3-one) is a potent orally-active androgen with well-documented hepatotoxic and endocrine-disrupting effects. It is listed on EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex II (banned substances) as a CMR Category 1B substance (H360 — May damage fertility or the unborn child). The SCCS has never assessed it as safe for cosmetic use, and its presence in any cosmetic formulation constitutes a serious regulatory violation.
Known concerns
- EU Annex II banned — CMR substance H360 (reproductive toxicity)
- Hepatotoxic effects
- Endocrine disruption — androgenic hormone
