Metopon is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Metopon (CAS 143-52-2) is a methylated morphine derivative (6-methyldihydromorphine) with potent opioid analgesic activity, historically used in pain management. As a controlled opioid substance with significant CNS and respiratory depression effects, it has no place in cosmetic formulations. EU regulations classify it as a pharmaceutical substance of concern, and it is not listed in CosIng as a cosmetic ingredient. Any presence in a cosmetic product would represent a serious regulatory and safety violation.
Known concerns
- Potent opioid analgesic — completely incompatible with cosmetic use
- Risk of systemic opioid effects from topical absorption
- Not a cosmetic ingredient under any regulatory framework
