About
Mixed Cresols is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Mixed cresols (ortho-, meta-, and para-cresol) are corrosive phenolic compounds with substantial toxicity profiles including H311/H312 (dermal absorptive toxicity), H314 (severe skin burns/eye damage), H318, H331 (inhalation acute toxicity), and H341 (mutagenicity concern). EU Annex II (entry 95) bans cresols from cosmetic products entirely due to their corrosive nature and systemic toxicity risk. No safe cosmetic use case exists for this substance class under current European cosmetics regulation 1223/2009.
Known concerns
- Corrosive to skin and eyes (H314, H318)
- Acute dermal and inhalation toxicity (H311, H331)
- Suspected mutagen (H341)
- EU Annex II BANNED from all cosmetic products
