About
Ground whole nutmeg seeds — much higher volatile oil than nutmeg shell. Carries restricted fragrance chemicals (methyl eugenol, safrole) at higher levels.
Myristica Fragrans Powder (CAS 84082-68-8) is the milled whole nutmeg seed — notably higher in volatile oil than the shell/mace form (which is id 35169 in this batch). The essential oil contains myristicin (a psychoactive and neurotoxic alkenylbenzene in high oral doses), methyl eugenol, safrole, and eugenol — the latter three are IFRA- and EU-restricted because of genotoxicity/carcinogenicity data. At cosmetic topical use levels (typically 0.5-3%) these would usually fall below IFRA thresholds in a finished product, but the ingredient itself should be labeled and dosed with care. Pregnancy-use caution is traditional. This is why the score is lower than the shell form — higher volatile-oil content means higher regulated-substance exposure.
