Octyldodeceth-30 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Octyldodeceth-30 is an ethoxylated ether of 2-octyldodecanol with an average of 30 moles of ethylene oxide per molecule. The high EO degree raises its HLB to approximately 17, making it a hydrophilic emulsifier suitable for O/W systems. The branched 2-octyldodecyl group provides emolliency while the long PEG chain minimizes skin penetration and irritation. EU Cosmetics Regulation permits its use without specific restriction. It is not classified as a skin sensitizer and presents very low irritation risk at cosmetic concentrations.
Skin benefits
- Hydrophilic emulsifier with low irritation
- Emollient properties from branched alcohol
- Good skin tolerance
Known concerns
- Potential trace EO/1,4-dioxane contamination from manufacturing
