About
Oleyl Stearate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Oleyl stearate is a wax ester in which oleyl alcohol (cis-9-octadecen-1-ol) is esterified with stearic acid (octadecanoic acid). This combination of a monounsaturated long-chain alcohol with a saturated long-chain fatty acid results in an ester with excellent emollient properties and good oxidative stability. The ingredient is used as a skin-conditioning agent and viscosity-controlling agent. It is not listed in any annex of EU Regulation 1223/2009, and the CIR Expert Panel has assessed it as safe for use in cosmetics.
