About
A short synthetic peptide supplied as the trifluoroacetate salt. The peptide itself is plausibly mild, but TFA is a persistent fluorinated by-product.
Oligopeptide-177 Trifluoroacetate is a short synthetic peptide isolated from solid-phase peptide synthesis as its trifluoroacetate (TFA) salt. The peptide itself is supplied at parts-per-million levels for skin-conditioning use; intact skin penetration is negligible and irritation potential is low. The flag is the counterion: trifluoroacetic acid is a persistent fluorinated organic acid that does not break down in the environment and is increasingly recognised alongside the broader PFAS family as a contaminant of concern. Modern peptide-cosmetic suppliers increasingly offer TFA-free (acetate-exchanged) grades for this reason. There is no CIR or SCCS opinion specific to this peptide. Independent efficacy data is sparse.
