Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A highly ethoxylated PEG laurate with 150 moles of EO, functioning as a solubilizer with minimal skin penetration due to its large molecular size.
PEG-150 Laurate is the polyethylene glycol (150 mol EO average) ester of lauric acid. The extremely high ethoxylation gives it properties similar to PEG-150 Stearate: very high HLB (~19), primarily a solubilizer function, and very limited skin penetration due to molecular size. The shorter lauric acid chain (C12) compared to stearic acid (C18) gives it a lighter skin feel. EU Cosmetics Regulation permits its use without restriction. Residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane must remain below SCCS guidance limits.
Skin benefits
- Solubilizer for hydrophilic formulations
- Lightweight skin feel from lauric acid
- Very mild and low irritation
Known concerns
- Potential trace EO/1,4-dioxane contamination from manufacturing
