About
A higher-PEG hydrogenated tallow amine. Better-tolerated than short-chain variants but still carries the amine-class concerns.
PEG-30 hydrogenated tallow amine (CAS 61791-26-2, hydrogenated grade) is a saturated polyethoxylated fatty amine with 30 EO units. Hydrogenation improves stability and high PEG gives strong water solubility and low skin irritation. Functions as cationic surfactant, emulsifier, and antistatic. CIR has reviewed the family as safe for rinse-off with nitrosamine and 1,4-dioxane controls. Amine-class nitrosamine formation concern persists. Score sits at the top of Moderate/orange, reflecting better tolerability but unchanged structural concerns.
Skin benefits
- Low irritation at high PEG
- Strong cationic conditioning
- Emulsion compatibility
- Oxidative stability
Known concerns
- Amine nitrosamine formation
- 1,4-Dioxane residuals
