About
A higher-PEG tallow amine — better-tolerated than short-chain variants but still carries nitrosamine and dioxane-residue concerns.
PEG-30 tallow amine is a polyethoxylated fatty amine with 30 ethylene oxide units, giving it higher water solubility and reduced direct irritation versus shorter-chain counterparts. It functions as a cationic surfactant, conditioner, and emulsifier. CIR has reviewed the PEG-alkyl amine family as safe for rinse-off with recommended controls on nitrosamine and 1,4-dioxane residuals. Still subject to amine-class nitrosamine-formation concerns if formulated with nitrosating agents. Higher PEG content marginally increases the importance of dioxane scavenging during manufacture. Score sits at the Moderate/orange border, slightly higher than lower-PEG variants due to better tolerability.
Skin benefits
- Lower irritation than short-chain PEG-tallowamines
- Cationic conditioning
- Good emulsion stability
Known concerns
- Nitrosamine formation with nitrite-containing systems
- 1,4-Dioxane residuals
- Not vegan (tallow)
