About
A high-ethoxylation Polysorbate 20 analogue (44 mol EO) used as a surfactant and solubiliser for essential oils and fragrances in aqueous formulations.
PEG-44 Sorbitan Laurate is a highly ethoxylated member of the Polysorbate family, functioning primarily as a surfactant and solubilising agent. It is not listed in EU Cosmetics Regulation Annexes II–VI. While it shares the same parent sorbitan laurate backbone as Polysorbate 20, the higher degree of ethoxylation increases the proportion of free polyethylene glycol, which is separately assessed by some regulatory frameworks. Trace 1,4-dioxane is a manufacturing by-product controlled under EU cosmetics purity requirements.
Skin benefits
- Excellent solubiliser for water-based formulations
- Supports stable emulsions in diverse product types
Known concerns
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation (EU-regulated impurity)
- Higher PEG content from elevated EO degree warrants awareness
