About

APEG emollient and emulsifier similar to PEG-6, used to create smooth textures in creams and lotions.

PEG-5 Glyceryl Isostearate is a PEGylated glyceride with 5 mol ethylene oxide, derived from isostearic acid. It serves as a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier. EU cosmet regulations treat this similarly to other PEG glycerides — permitted with standard purity requirements. Like all PEG compounds, residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane must be controlled per GMP. No EU Annex II or III restrictions apply.

Skin benefits

  • Acts as an effective emulsifier for O/W emulsions
  • Imparts a smooth, non-greasy feel to formulations
  • Functions as a skin conditioning agent

Known concerns

  • Manufacturing impurity risk (ethylene oxide, 1,4-dioxane)
  • Generally considered safe in rinse-off products
