Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A short-chain polyethylene glycol stearate ester used as an emulsifier and opacifying agent in cosmetic formulations, particularly in cream products.
PEG-5 STEARATE is the esterification product of polyethylene glycol (5 EO units) with stearic acid, producing a short-chain PEG fatty acid ester with moderate hydrophilic character. The short 5-unit EO chain means it can contribute some skin penetration potential, but stearic acid's well-established safety profile and the CIR assessment of PEG stearates support cosmetic use. Not restricted in EU Annexes II or III. Widely used in emulsified cream formulations.
