Good
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A lower-ethoxylation polysorbate-type emulsifier derived from oleic acid, functioning as an emulsifier in water-based cosmetic formulations, with a safety profile broadly similar to Polysorbate 80 but with slightly more lipophilic character.
Sorbitan mono-9-octadecenoate PEG-6 ether, a lower-EO analogue of Polysorbate 80 (PEG-20). Functions as a nonionic emulsifier and co-surfactant in cosmetic products. Not restricted in EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009; listed in CosIng without Annex II or III entries. The shorter 6 mol EO chain increases lipophilicity compared to PEG-20, making it suitable for different emulsion types. Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation is a minor technical impurity concern.
Skin benefits
- Emulsifier with balanced HLB value
- Effective for solubilizing oleic acid-derived ingredients
Known concerns
- Trace 1,4-dioxane possible from ethoxylation process
