About
A highly ethoxylated Polysorbate 20 variant (75 mol EO) used as a solubiliser and surfactant in aqueous cosmetic and pharmaceutical topical formulations.
PEG-75 Sorbitan Laurate is a highly ethoxylated polysorbate emulsifier (Polysorbate 20 class) with strong solubilising and surfactant properties. It is not restricted under EU cosmetics law. The high EO number (75) increases water solubility and the free PEG fraction relative to lower-EO analogues. The ingredient has a long-standing safety record in topical and oral applications. Residual 1,4-dioxane from the ethoxylation step is regulated under EU cosmetics purity specifications.
Skin benefits
- Excellent solubiliser for lipophilic ingredients
- Supports stable O/W emulsions
Known concerns
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation (EU-regulated impurity)
- Elevated free PEG content from high EO degree
