About

An ethoxylated coconut fatty acid ester widely used as an emulsifier in cosmetics, with a safety profile similar to other PEG cocoates but requiring purity controls for 1,4-dioxane.

PEG-9 Cocoate (CAS 61791-29-5) is a monoester of coconut fatty acids with polyethylene glycol (9 mol EO average). The SCCS has noted that PEGs must be evaluated for residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, which are regulated impurities. At current cosmetic concentrations, PEG-9 Cocoate is considered safe when produced under GMP conditions that control these contaminants, per EU Cosmetics Regulation EC 1223/2009.
