About
Phenprocoumon (inn) is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Phenprocoumon is a coumarin-based anticoagulant vitamin K antagonist used as a rodenticide. It shares structural alerts with other anticoagulant rodenticides and has demonstrated organ toxicity pathways. Under EU CosIng, anticoagulant compounds with rodenticidal activity are explicitly banned as they have no cosmetic utility and present extreme systemic toxicity risk via dermal absorption. This substance would be listed in Annex II as prohibited.
Known concerns
- Anticoagulant mechanism — risk of severe bleeding
- Organ toxicity from repeated exposure
- CMR substance — likely Annex II banned
- No cosmetic use permitted
