Polyglycerin-4 (CAS 56491-53-3) is a tetramer of glycerol produced by condensation polymerisation. It functions as a humectant with excellent water-binding capacity, and as a co-emulsifier in cosmetic formulations. Its hygroscopic nature makes it effective at maintaining skin hydration. No GHS hazards or EU restrictions. CIR has assessed polyglycerol compounds as safe for cosmetic use.
