About
A cationic conditioning polymer used in hair and skin care. High molecular weight means low penetration and good tolerance.
Polyquaternium-60 (CAS 351425-04-2) is a high-molecular-weight cationic polymer used as a conditioning and anti-static agent in hair and skin care. Like other polyquats (Polyquaternium-7, -10, -11), its large size limits skin penetration and systemic exposure. EU CosIng lists it as hair conditioning / skin conditioning. No CMR or endocrine classifications. The polyquat family has been reviewed by CIR and SCCS variants as safe for cosmetic use with typical monomer-residual controls. Concerns are mostly aesthetic (build-up on hair) and supplier-quality dependent. Score sits in the upper Fine tier.
Skin benefits
- Effective cationic hair conditioning
- Reduces static and flyaways
- Film-forming for smooth feel
- Low skin penetration
Known concerns
- Potential build-up on hair with repeated use
- Monomer residuals vary by supplier
